SKU (Stock Keeping Unit)

A SKU is a unique alphanumeric identifier assigned to each distinct product in an inventory system.

Full explanation

SKUs enable precise tracking of individual items across locations, variants, and sales channels. A well-structured SKU system makes it possible to distinguish between different sizes, colors, or configurations of the same product and to track each variant independently.

In Stocklyst, every item receives a unique SKU that is tracked across all branches and zones, with independent quantity records at each location. SKUs can be linked to barcodes for mobile scanning workflows and are used as the primary identifier in transfers, adjustments, reports, and API integrations.

How Stocklyst handles this

Stocklyst treats the SKU as the primary inventory identifier. Each SKU carries independent quantity records at every branch and zone, supports barcode association for mobile scanning, and serves as the key for all transfers, adjustments, and reporting workflows.
